Geisha Beauty

I've always been fascinated by Geishas, in particular, the makeup they apply. This video shows a Maiko(a young Geisha in training)applying all her makeup.


I found this traditional handmade Yachiyo-Hake Japanese brush, below, used by Maikos and Geishas and it caught my eyes because it looks so much like the Yachiyo Brush 27 by Nars. For $50, you can bring some of the beauty of a Geisha into your makeup box.

Sunscreen Scare

The Environmental Working Group did a study of nearly 1,000 sunscreens. And the results? 4 out of 5 sunscreens don't block out enough of the sun's UV rays, including brands such as Coppertone, Neutrogena, and Banana Boat. They also discovered that 48% of sunscreens contain ingredients which break down in the sun, either by themselves or in combination with other sunblocks. What to do now?
In comes La Roche Posay Anthelios 40 Sunscreen. This sunscreen contains the ingredient Mexoryl™ SX, which gives it the highest UVA and UVB protection in a sunscreen. Eyeball Tattoos?

First there was eyeball jewelry and now...there are eyeball tattoos. Though eye tattooing for health reasons has been done for over 2,000 years, for the first time ever, a man from Canada, Pauly Unstoppable(what a fitting name) got an eyeball tattoo. Needles injected ink into his eyes forty times, turning the whites of his eyes blue.

He said of the experience, "I really have to emphasize again that the procedure was extensively researched and done by people who were aware of the risks and possible complications and that it should not be casually attempted. Now that this experiment has been started, please wait for us to either heal or go blind before trying it.

Harajuku Girls

This September Gwen Stefani will be launching a collection of five perfumes influenced by the Harajuku street style of Japan. The different perfumes are Love, which is floral; Lil' Angel, a fruity floral; Music, a delicate floral; Baby, a powdery musk; and G, for Gwen, which is a gourmand. The scents will be $45 for 30ml and $25 for 10 ml.
